That never has been broken by the wind....

Ohhh...not so hot this morning, I guess I am just left-over tired from yesterday. It was a long day, but I survived, and got tons of work done. That is always a good feeling. Today, I need to help H with some work from the ICS, he has little opportunity to get it done on the job, and it just takes him so much longer to do, I am talking about scheduling, bookwork. I already do the payroll for him, and most of the bookkeeping, although he pays the bills and I am grateful for that, God, how i hate paying bills....and I do it for so many...my own, the dealership, the owners, and the ICS...uck.

My hair is bugging the hell out of me this morning, yes I know that is a stupid topic for blogging, but some days I wake up and it's everywhere, and I was just too tired at three-thirty to put it up, and now it is driving me crazy. It has gotten so long---and i always worry that a forty seven year old woman should not have hair down the middle of her back---when am I too old for it? I ask those that know me, and of course, no one would say, "well I think you are too much of an old hag to wear long hair"...I would cut it, but everyone gives me so much shit when I do that, and I find that it is actually easier to take care of long hair than short. This is just the time of year when I go through this....high humidity, and it curls and waves at anyone that will wave back, even though I do everything I can to prevent that....so each year this is a dilemma in my life, yes I really do know that i need to get a life, and each year I don't do anything about it, and I assume that someday I will have to.....ahh..such problems and strife in the life of this old girl...
Just so you know, I color it, the grey does not hang out, it is dark, but not nearly as dark as the Indian in me, and I use hot rollers each day, so it does not just hang there, or I put it up...just an opinion please, what is the age that a woman should cut off her hair and give in to being old? I cannot picture me as one of the blue-hair set.....although I am sure that is inevitable.

Well, let's see...on to more important things....I watched the coverage of the floods in Texas on FOX news most all day yesterday in my office, pretty sad. I was once in a flood in South Dakota, and I have very vivid memories of the fear and destruction, I wrote about it here once, I was very young---maybe four and we lost everything. It is very sad to see what mother nature can do to us, in the blink of an eye...

I should be off to my day. I am happy this isn't one of those twelve or thirteen hour marathon days, I would never make that. I hope your day is great----Later!

Hey now, sophia loren is like...100...and she still has long hair! :D There's also a reality show on that started last night, called "Age verses...something"...I forgot. Anyway, it's about a 30 year old guy who has to choose a partner from a bunch of 40 year olds. And those 40 year olds *all* have long hair that reaches almost to the middle of their back. Watch the show sometime!

Sandra--what a perfect article--at least I am not that into my un-cooperative hair...but i remember the days when that would have ruined my day, as well. Do you remember the Mary Tyler Moore episode where her hair would not lay down? I am probably waaay older than you and hell, you probably don't even remember the show at all...but your story makes me think of that...teehe. Thanks for sharing!

You've caught my attention now, Jamie. South Dakota? Flood? when...where? If you have Indian blood, then you know that long hair is traditional and is never cut except for a time of mourning. I love that. My father and mother always complained about my long wild hair (it has a mind of it's own - coarse and wavy). "When are you going to start acting your age?" Dad would say. I've almost always had it long, and prefer to let it go straight, but of course that doesn't look too stylish. I just very recently cut it quite short on a whim, and am amazingly happy with it - cool and comfy and easily done in under 10 minutes. I am not a girl to stand in the mirror for long - if it isn't easy it ain't gonna happen. At some point I will grow it long again, probalby if the day comes when I can retire or move into a job where I can serve others on my own terms. (Think left over hippy child. :-) If you like the way your hair feels and it's easy enough to work with - KEEP IT, there is no dictate that says women over 40 must have short hair - that's total B.S.!

hey...
this just made me think of my great gramma for the first time probably in years.
NO...not YOU! ya old hag LOL. not your age etc...obviously..i'm a close second as far as that goes. as for the hair... i have almost always worn it short. maybe a few times in my life it's been "long" but long for me has never been passed the middle of my back.
ok anyways... my great gramma had ALOT of indian in her. not sure what kind. but i didn't really spend any time with her. i only remember seeing her one time... i think she was in her 80's, and she was in a nursing home... all i remember is how she looked , laying there. she had really really long braided hair...two braids. gray and black kinda hair. she was pretty, but she was wrinkled of course, and she had dark skin...i was like 8 or nine years old at the time.
i guess i didn't realize that we had gone there to say "goodbye"... because to me it was i think the first time i saw her.. it was hello. but i just remember staring at her. she was very pretty...you could see that she had lived a hard life... but she had a softness to her too. but her hair... it was just so pretty. and long.

but anyways... sure... if you like it, and can live with it long in the heat etc... don't let other people influence you to cut it off. i'm miserable with long hair...if i could wear it long i would.. i just get the feeling i'm being strangled when it's long.

but anyhow.. i didn't know you were indian. that's cool.
i'm obviously part indian. of some type.
:))

Josie---I am only 1/8 indian, cherokee, to be exact. It doesn't show too much, only in my hair, and cheekbones. I actually have green eyes, as you can see in the photo, that's really not indian! I come from southern Missouri, but we lived in SD among a million other places....rapid city...the flood i was in was in 1964. It wasn't that severe for most, but my parents had rented a trailer, my father traveled the country working on nuclear missle silos, and they moved ever couple of months. Most of the time I lived with my grandmother, but occasionally, they would come and pick up my sister and I. That was what was going on that summer. Most places were not affected by the water, but we watched our "house" float away...it scarrred me for life...anyway..I did survive, we all did. I like the description you give of yourself...hippie.....I would like to see a photo sometime, it helps when you have a face to go with the name!

Soul, my great grandmother, sounds very much like yours, a long, long braid, all grey...only mine smoked a pipe! Too funny...I haven't thought about "please don't eat the daisies" in forever...I loved that show, too. I never could get into the flying nun...but oh, how I wanted to be mary tyler moore, and throw MY hat in the air!!!!!

i have the high indian cheekbones too..and ya know, cherokee sounds about right...i for some reason when i wrote yesterday, was thinking i had heard...cherokee...or chocktaw... but then..second guessed "my senile"..thinking it may have been that stupid song. some country song that named off a bunch of indians. i don't know. but anyhow.

ya, i forgot all about MTM tossing her hat in the air...but when i read that i got the exact flash of the way the show came on.
are you sure that wasn't that one show...ummm... That girl??? gawd...i had forgot all about that show too! ha.
you're makin me feel old.
c ya
