The life I thought I would have

Ahhh....Sunday morning. I love Sunday morning. Particularly when I thought I would have to sling ice cream all day, only to find that H found a new/previously employed person to work for me today. Amen, H, amen. Thank you. I am worn out beyond belief, although after I manage to finish ALL that has to be done around this humble abode, I will be in about as good a shape as I would have been in if I had worked. But I won't have to look at the little pieces of leaves/crumbs/who-the-hell-knows what else on the kitchen floor any more. I CANNOT stand being in a less than perfectly clean place, and we all know how hard it is to achieve THAT.

I believe i mentioned that I went sofa shopping with OS this week. I did that in the town in which he lives. Which is also the town that the ICS is located, and just for your information, it is about eighty miles from where I live. It is an upscale, colorful dutch village, that is bordering an incredibly beautiful lake, right smack in the middle of the podunk state. Ninety-nine percent of it is unbelievably perfect, all the stores and shops have a code to aspire to, ALL structures have to be APPROVED by the city council, and I do mean all, ALL, every sign, every structure, even every FLOWERPOT---no shit----has to be approved. I have never seen anything like it. The result of all this ridiculousness is quite breathtaking, although I wouldn't give you a plug nickel to be a part of the community, other than running a business there, but i digress. SO, while we were at this furniture place, full of traditional but trendy-a perfect description of the whole TOWN-by the way, OS asked me if I liked the sort of things that were for sale there. Now let me tell you, they had beautiful things. Absolutely beautiful. Expensive. It was total class. I am not uncomfortable with things of that nature. Not at all. But my answer to OS was : "these are the things that I thought I would have, that go along with the life I thought I would have". I explained to him that i didn't know how anyone in the real world could live this way----and I really don't. How do real people manage to LIVE in setting such as those? How do you let a child with a runny nose or a dog with dirty feet lounge on a thirty five hundred dollar sofa? How do you keep such clutter clean? How does anyone have the time to keep the dust off of all the little props: skeleton keys on a ring, tossed onto a "distressed" side table, just casually lying about, leather bound first edition (copies) of the classics stacked "askew" on the bottom shelf of a glass and marble coffee table-----I could go on, but you get my drift. I could afford anything they had, (if I were to quit supporting my kids, but that's another story:). The question is: why would I want to? I love my home, with my nine hundred dollar sofa, that reclines, which helps so much when I hurt, and my little oak broyhill coffee table that has my dog Snowman's scratch marks across the top, from where he tried to jump over it and missed, his nails scratching all the way across...now that's a "distressed" table....I love that it is a clean look, no clutter, easy to keep, I love all my books, hardback but cheap, stacked here and there, in piles of "to read" and "been read". I love it. Yes, I also wished momentarily, that I lived in a museum, a showplace, but how on earth do you LIVE in that? Just wondering....

But anyway, on with my day. I have a couple of miles to cover this morning, I haven't been such a good girl this week with my walking, too busy, and I may not be too successful this morning, I am in alot of pain, but I will at least try....Hope your day is wonderful Over and out.

god, do I agree with you on this one! I love magazines that show houses like that, but then I think...."where's their clutter? where are the socks and the magazines that aren't so artfully arranged on the distressed table?"

Ya, that expensive stuff is nice but if I have to constantly worry about it getting dirty or scratched, the for get it!!! I love old stuff that is banged up so my kids can only make it look better when they run into it and crash a football into it or something!

I get the momentary pangs too. But even if I could afford it, I could never keep it up. So I know what you mean. :)
