THIS is why

Things at work are changing so rapidly, even I cannot keep up. The new owner, a man I like to call BJ, will be taking over on the first day of March, instead of the before-thought date of April 1st. So, as far as I'm concerned, I have one week left at my job. No one involved thought this would happen that soon, and every employee there became visibly upset that they could potentially be unemployed that quickly. After a few conversations between the current owner and I, he agreed that was hardly in the best interest of his employees, so he put a clause in the management contract that no one could be fired or have their wages and benefits lowered until the completion of the whole stock sale, which should be between 4-6 weeks after that date. That applies to me also, but I withhold my right to leave at any moment, mostly because this new guy has been a complete ass about taking over, and has not spoken to any current employee there. He is advertising for new mechanics already, and literally has NO idea who or what works there currently. I am hoping that all of my impressions of him are wrong, but so far I see nothing to make me like or respect him in any way. It does state in the contract that he will bring in his own management team, so I envision my office becoming quite crowded. I suppose that it all remains to be seen how it plays out, but suffice it to say, I am not happy with the terms and conditions of any of this, and I have no idea how long I will be able to hold out during the changing of the guard. Bankruptcy anyone? Holy shit.

There are interesting things happening with the Ice Cream Store, assuming that it isn't sold, and I will know that on this coming Tuesday. That is the deadline for the interested party to have decided or not what he will do, as it is literally down to the wire on having to begin opening that place up in time for already scheduled commitments. The other option could be a good thing..but I will wait and tell all once I know what's going on.

I could continue...but I think this is enough confusion and uncertainty for all of us. This is what's happening in my life, what's going on in your world? And you all wonder why I drink...

ps...yea! Spellcheck has returned!

Change can be very frightening but even more so when it effects your financial security and livelihood. I'm sure morale must be very low at work right now which is definitely something you don't need either. I hope there will be a good outcome for all of you.

I'm not really up with the ice cream shop situation so will stand by for news as it comes to hand.

Have a good Friday and weekend Jamie. You deserve a break.

I don't envy you your work situation. The new owner doesn't sound user friendly. It won't be good for the future of the business either. Mr. Smarty Pants may have a day of regret when business goes elsewhere. Change of ownership is never employee friendly. Hang in there. In the final analysis you'll be OK.

Man....the 1st of MARCH? Crusty is right...I don't think this ass hat has thought things all the way through. Your customers want people they know and depend on. Hope it all works out (as banal as THAT sounds). And I'll raise a glass to you later toasting the end of the week, and the demise of asses everywhere!

BTW, it is FINALLY snowing in New York!!

The new guy doesn't sound like he even knows what he's doing. I'd never come into an organisation and make those kind of broad sweeping actions. Isn't it just common sense to learn how the place functions first and then make any needed changes ? sheesh. I won't bore you with platitudes - it sucks but just maybe it will come out positive - XOBC

Suddenly I feel like I'm smack back in workdrama's...is it wrong to feel good about that? The grass is definitely not greener, but it's nice to have a common balance...then again, if I was working fulltime, you'd hear me complaining about the asshats, soul I will forever love this word and think of you when I say it!!, on a constant basis, until they discovered my blog and fired me for my rants.
At least my children can't fire me! :)

Jaime, your daughter has requested a meal upon her return, I posted the baked Spaghetti recipe..have at it!

Sincerely,
Elizabeth :)

Try and enjoy your weekend.

I'm sorry you're going through this - I have been through it, but with a large company, so it didn't feel quite as personal as it would for you. If that guy was smart, he would take some time to get to know everyone before he starts making enemies and estranging everyone. I guess it's his grave he's digging though. I hope you move on to something bigger and better.

lovins,
fiwa

I still think that once the dust settles, your new boss would be insane not to keep you on....

What a moron! I can't believe that he'd go in and just 'clean house' like that. He would be wise to just let the employees carry on until he can get familiar with things. I could understand maybe bringing in a couple new employees...but omg...EVERYONE? He's an idiot I fear. He could learn so much from you. Hope you're gonna be ok...another dealership would probably LOVE to have you if you want to stay in this line of work. Big hugs.
