The scoop

I survived yesterday. I did have an epidural or maybe two, as I know he put the damned needle in and out twice. But he was the arrogant kind of ass that doesn't much like to tell you what's up, and I suppose that's okay, as long as he fixes me. By the time I actually got to see him, I wasn't too much in the mood to talk myself. If any of you have ever had an epidural then you already know what I mean, but it was ugly. It isn't painful, it is....ugly. That is the only word that comes to mind. For a few minutes after, I didn't know if I was going to pass out, throw up, or die. But that passed. It felt the same as when you hit your funny bone, that icky nervy feeling in your arm? That's what I felt all over my body, after they kept running that needle into that "thing" in that place in my spine. I wanted to come up off that table, and quickly, and it lasted for quite a while. But I will take it if it helps. If that Dr's thing is "pain management" then I highly suggest another profession for him. I suspect that would require conversation and time. And that is clearly something he has little of. Once again, if what I need from him is just a few minutes of torture every now and then, then I can deal with it. If it would turn into something else, then we will have to rethink this plan. I see him again in two weeks. It is possible that I have to have the procedure repeated at that time. I should expect results from yesterday within the next few days, if it is going to help at all. Already this morning, my left leg has strength. I have not had that for weeks. The pain level has not changed, but I have the strength to walk. But I do not feel well at all today. I suppose that is from all the crap I went through yesterday. I was told that I probably wouldn't. I was also told that if I felt up to it, I could get back on my bike next week. YES! I am praying the pain goes away and I can. YES!

Just a little inside secret. Pain management doctors are anesthesiologists. They aren't the best communicators to begin with, that's why they chose their particular field, their patients are comatose 90% of the time. Ha!

Summer- a little bulb went off in my head when you said that, and I remember that, Thank you. You are right, I really never did meet an anesthesiologist that talked much or well for that matter. (and I am so grateful that you spelled it first, I could never have...) have a great weekend!

Oh, I hope it's better for you this weekend. You deserve to have days that are pain free.

Feel better! Those epi's hurt like hell...and they "tell you" now, "hold still, and curl your back..yeah,..there's a huge ass needle being stuck in my spine and I'm supposed to HOLD STILL? OUCH!
I hope it takes!
Always,

Keeping my fingers crossed that this gives you some relief, then it would be worth feeling icky. Even the leg improvement is a step in the right direction. Now let's pray the pain heads out the door! I think you should flunk doctor school if you can't learn to talk to patients. Bedside manner is everything. I had one doc that I remember only as a white coated blur - in and out in ten seconds and no time for questions ever. It sucked. But he did make me better.

That's rough, but I am glad to hear that you did indeed get the epidural and that it helps you. Take care, lady. You will be in my thoughts :o)

I get an epidural every six months. I can tell you that I know exactly how you felt....like you were either going to puke or keel over, right? And that needle is fucking huge!

I can always tell when it works because the pain begins to fade away after about 24 hours. I can't tell you how that calms me. I have had a few that didn't work at all and that was so frustrating.

Fingers crossed. And the fact that your leg has more strength is a VERY good sign!

I hope the shot works. Pain is no fun, it kind of interferes with everything, puts you in a bad mood and means that something is wrong.

Take it wasy, don't hurt yourself trying to pus things to fast.

I have only ever had an epidural when I was in labour. Like Crusty Beef said ....hold still, curl over....yeah right. Have you ever curled over with a massive big pregnant stomach with 2 babies inside. Not to mention gripping labour pains and then they stick a big motherf*cking needle in your back. Not fun at all.

You know that funny bone feeling you mentioned. That is probably the best way to describe how my whole body feels when I have an MS relapse.

I hope it works and gives you some kind of relief. On the plus side your leg has got some strength back, hopefully the rest will follow. Fingers crossed!!!
