Buy them books, send them to school, they eat the covers.....

Yesterday turned out to be a good day, in spite of the attack dog. Yes, I am fine, my leg is just bruised, and H's hand is okay, too. His bike isn't even messed up, just scratched. We were very lucky. I have never been attacked by anything before...and it surprised me more than anything. CCC-yes, we knew who the dog belonged to, the police chief that came and talked to us said there had been many problems before. I told him emphatically that I didn't want any harm to come to the dog, nor did I want to make any trouble for the owner, other than taking responsibility to make sure it was chained/penned up. What happened after that, I don't know. I probably don't want to know....i can't bear the idea of anyone hurting a dog, even if it did hurt someone else. I also know that all of you will think that statement is really stupid, but it is the way i am. To me, animals are to be loved and cared for, and frankly, it is NOT his own fault that he (the dog) acted that way. It is the fault of the owner.

I assume it was a male dog, in my mind, they are more aggressive than females. I voiced that opinion to H and asked him what he thought---he said "I didn't have the time to flip him over and rub his tummy.....so I don't know" Typical H. Always the funny guy. Thank God.

Out.

Put the dog in the house chain the owner in the yard.

I agree with Summer. The Dog whisperer would say that its the owner that needs to be retrained. The dog canbe rehabilitated

glad you both are ok. i blame the owner too... but if the dog behaves this way regularly... that's a problem. but i'm like you.. breaks my heart. the owner should be fined or whatever they do in your state.
here's to a great sunday for you..any nascar today?

I'm very relieved to hear you're both doing ok, and not traumatized by the incident. I would be!! I can so understand your compassion for the dog, my daughter would feel the same. (And yes, H is very funny - good point on his part! :-) My thought is, however, that the owners have proven irresponsible thus far, and it's not a first complaint. What if they promise to do better, and some child is mauled when they don't? Is it worth risking a child's life. Can the dog be rehabilitated? Probably so, but the liklihood if it stays with these folks is very slim. Just chaining it up is not a real solution, dogs are famous for escaping. I totally agree with Summer - let's deal with the real problem - the owners. I'd love to see them get a nice big fat fine!

Pit bulls are very protective of their owners, and they tend to see the rest of the world as attackers.

I know many people like that. Many of them own pit bulls.

Trust, these days, is in short supply.

I agree with Josie. The thought of a child coming to harm because of those people even makes my tea curdle...

All I can say (other than I am sooo happy you and H are okay)...you are one beautiful soul for bypassing legal action. Where I'm from...folks torture the owner, take them to court and kill the dogs. Period. There have been many pit bull attacks here. Most were just minor bites/bruises (however, children were victims). Hence the legal action. But still. Fucking lock up your beasts before they get shot or someone dies...know what I mean?? ;)

God, what a gentle, sweet soul you are.

I would have been mad as hell and hell bent on giving that owner a piece of my mind.
